Remembering Mario Santoro

Mario Santoro was one of the first to arrive on the scene that picture perfect fateful September morning.

He had started his career as a professional EMS provider with Metropolitan Ambulance, a private company. He was a dedicated and passionate provider with superior problem solving abilities. His “make it happen” mentality was always on display even in the most dire of

He was the loving husband of Leo and adoring father of young Sophia. Both a loving and beloved son and brother as well as a respected provider. It has been reported that those who knew him best also realized that Mr. Santoro, 28, loved, more than almost anything else, to have a great meal with close friends and family.

Mario was working as an EMT for the New York Presbyterian Hospital responding to New York City 911 calls the morning of September 11, 2001 with his partner Keith Fairben. As one of the first units on the scene, they remained in the court area providing triage and treatment until the collapse of the South Tower. Undoubtedly there are many people who owe their lives to the quick thinking and actions of Mario Santoro.
