By now the news cycles are getting what will probably be the last licks in on the rescue of the 33 Chilean miners who were trapped underground for 69 days. I do remember first hearing about the incident back in August and the original estimate was a rescue sometime in December, so the earlier rescue was a bit of surprise to me. Which is why when I originally heard about it, I thought there was some sort of outbreak of pediatric flatulence being attributed to spicy beans.
Thankfully, the EMS Blogosphere this week has remained flatulence free…
- Speaking of minors, Medic Trommashere does a quick review of our special patients.
- Greg Friese interviews And A Paycheck Too author Will Wyatt. It’s a great interview and I found what Will had to say about his personal evolution into EMS very interesting and undoubtedly I think many others can relate
- Is your classic Droid running slow even with the newest Android FroYo OS? Luckily DroidMedic has provided a fix to boost your Droid‘s speed. As an early adopter I was glad to implement this fix and it worked! Now I can play Angry Birds without any sort of delay
- Rogue Medic continues his medical myth buster ways in a post about The Real Western Medicine. For some reason he excluded any mention of cowboys and indians sucking out the venom from a rattlesnake bite being for entertainment purposes only, but I’m sure that was just a minor oversight
- TOTWTYTR gave us a medical mystery to contemplate as opposed to a medical myth. Of course, it isn’t necessarily that much of a mystery as the comments have proven
- Adam Thompson stresses the importance of information sharing when it comes to patient outcomes in order to make evidence based treatment decisions. The biggest roadblock of course is the common mythical misunderstandings of HIPAA…
- Russ Reina brought us a story of not just aggressive intubation but some peer approval that went along with it. This of course makes you wonder about the true value of peer review…
- Jim Hoffman devotes some time to preventing upper body injuries while working in EMS. It’s worth a listen just to learn the definition of “washcloth abs”
- Justin Schorr offered a scenario involving law enforcement officer injuries (or the potential of) and wants you to make the call. This is a very realistic scenario with the exception of someone being called The Watch Commander… because we all know that he should be watching the Watchmen instead of calling for EMS
- Insomniac Medic explains what happens when Superman goes to the dentist. Clap those feet people! Clap those feet!
- Jeramedic has a great post about the importance of recognizing ourselves as members of the EMS Community. Personally I highly anticipate the arrival of the EMSVille app on Facebook to help break down those self-erected barriers…
And finally…
- When it comes to faking it, Steve Whitehead has Meg Ryan‘s number… do you?
Have a safe weekend!
