Just like call volume it’s been another busy week in the EMS blogosphere! There are a lot of great posts to highlight this week, but we’d also like to highlight a survey currently hosted online over at EMS1.com regarding the “EMS Name” Debate. We encourage you to go over there and make your feelings known, and hopefully the results of the survey will be made public so that perhaps we can all finally come to a consensus and stop confusing not only ourselves but the public as well! Right after you do that, be sure to check out these informative and fun blog posts from the EMS Blogosphere…
- Rogue Medic looks in depth at the FDNY decision to charge hospital based 911 ambulance providers an exorbitant fee for dispatch and online medical control services. While this may seem like a normal practice to some New Yorkers, others generally refer to it as extortion or “pay to play” politics
- Hybridmedic provides a great case study starring our most commonly uninvited virus guest of the season!
- Paramedicine101 has a great post by Christopher covering pediatric intranasal fentanyl and its use
- TOTWTYTR found himself on the other end of the stethoscope and in an interesting point of view regarding the “Law of Unintended Consequences”
- Lizzie has kissed her social life goodbye with a fond farewell for finals week…
- Droid Medic has reviewed the iTriage app for Android. It’s a nice little app to have although I do agree the title can be a little misleading for healthcare professionals
- Jim Hoffman touches on the subject of callers making special requests. As a professional I wish I could have requested no siren for the majority of my calls years ago… maybe then I wouldn’t have suffered such hearing loss
- Future Ditch Doctor is wagering on a win against Ted Setla (CoEMS) for his football team at the Gator Bowl this year. Personally, I’m rooting for the Mets to win that one…
- Greg Friese has a review of EMS: The Job Of Your Life by Devin Kerins, which would also make a great stocking stuffer for that EMSer in your life
- Burned-Out Medic heard what sounds to be an urban myth that turned out to be true!
- Justin Schorr shines a light on the double standards that exist when it comes to bad behavior made public and inappropriate behavior published in Social Media
- Kelly Grayson took the time to commend his employer for doing something good in these tough economic times for their providers
And finally…
- On this week’s episode of EMS Garage the hot topic is the FDNY EMS Organ Recovery Unit. I’ve already written one blog post that will be followed up with another (correcting what I myself originally had wrong) but take a listen to the discussion regarding their operational procedures and the ethical challenges such a program has to overcome to be operated in an EMS system
Have a safe weekend!
